About Us

Kruti Dhata's mission was inspired by the work of Dr. Chandrasekhar Sankurathri.  Kruti Dhata began under the guidance of a few dedicated individuals who believed in Dr. Chandrasekhar Sankurathri's vision to give the rural poor an opportunity to develop as enlightened, healthy and responsible citizens. In 1989 Dr. Chandra Sankurathri established the Sankurathri Foundation (SF) in Andra Pradesh, India in memory of his wife and two children (6 and (3 yrs) who were killed in the Air India (Kanishka) disaster on 23rd June, 1985, off the coast of Ireland.

Few friends of Chandra, early on prior to Kruti Dhata, raised individual contributions across USA to support Chandra's dedicated work and in 2005 Kruti Dhata was formed to increase the awareness SF's programs in USA, and to raise contributions to support its educational and eye care efforts to help the poor and needy in India.  Kruti Dhata Inc. was recognized (October 2005) as a non-profit (tax exempt) charitable organization in USA by the Internal Revenue Service under the section 501 (c) (3) of the internal Revenue code.

Today, Kruti Dhata plays an important role supporting the Sankurathri Foundation's programs through organizational and fundraising activities in the USA.

Kruti in Sanskrit language means human effort. Dhata means the giver. Kruti Dhata is one whose efforts are purely for the act of giving, with no thoughts of what one might receive in return.
